Tile and Stone Repairs and Maintenance

We also do all kinds of interior and exterior tile and stone repairs in  Austin Tx, South Austin Tx, North Austin Tx, Rollingwood Tx, Spicewood TxBee Cave Tx, Briarcliff Tx, Lakeway Tx, Horseshoe Bay Tx, Bee Creek Terrace Tx, West Lake HIlls Hills Tx, Barton Creek Tx.   Refilling the mineral pockets in your travertine that was not back filled.  Replacing broken tiles.  Replacing brick or stone broken by fallen trees.  We can strip and reseal your stone floors.  We can clean your tile or stone and grout lines.  Most carpet cleaning and tile maintenance companies just spray your grout lines with some sort of cleaner/degreaser  then do a high pressure rinse with their steam extractor.  The problem is this only removes surface dirt no matter how much pressure they are using.  The other thing is that they might etch your stone, plus some of their products are not water soluble and will leave a residue that attracts even more dust and dirt than you had before they came.  We use products that react with the minerals within the stone itself.  We apply them with a sponge or brush by hand.  We then neutralize and rinse the stone clean.  Minor scratches can be sanded out.  We fill the holes in the stone and grout.  We then seal the stone and grout to protect the finish.  We can even use enhancer  on the stone to make the colors more vibrant.  This works especially well on slate.

We get calls regularly from homeowners in Austin Tx, South Austin Tx, North Austin Tx, Rollingwood Tx, Spicewood TxBee Cave Tx, Briarcliff Tx, Lakeway Tx, Horseshoe Bay Tx, Bee Creek Terrace Tx, West Lake HIlls Hills Tx, Barton Creek Tx with tile showers that are only a couple of years old (new homes as well as recent remodels).  They have baseboards that are either swelling up or are looking rotted out to the sides of the shower or in the closet behind the shower.  90% of the time we find that the tile in the shower looks alright but when we cut out a hole behind the shower to investigate, we find that the tile was installed on an improper backing material such as green drywall or nails have been driven into the vinyl shower pan liner which causes moisture to eventually work its way through the wall and compromise the integrity of the shower.  In some bad cases the framing behind the shower is completely rotted out and the backing material is completely disintegrated.  In other cases, they use a good waterproof backing material like Hardie backer board or Durock cement board but do not take the time to waterproof  the seams and screw holes or do not flash the pan liner properly.  This also leaves points where the water penetrates the backing material and causes moisture problems.

Even when using the proper materials if you have any of these issues the only way to correct them is to completely tear out the shower and rebuild it properly.  Sometimes a $5 tube of caulking and an extra 15 minutes is all it would have taken to do it right.

Unfortunately, by the time you discover these issues the contractors are long gone.

With Alan Stone Tile & Stone we don’t cut any corners.  We take the time to inform you about what we are doing every step of the way.  We are not limited to just removing and replacing showers and back splashes but can completely reconfigure and relocate walls, plumbing and cabinetry to accommodate your new kitchen and bathroom remodeling ideas.
