Rustic Modern Bathroom Remodel in Lakeway / Austin TX
The homeowner originally approached me for this bathroom remodeling project with the intent of making a functional walk in shower. She wanted spa style shelves on the end of the shower for her towels. I selected these porcelain 12×24 tiles which we straight set for that modern look.
You can see how on high quality porcelain tiles, the color is baked into the material so that the edges have the same color shade as the surface. This is a great development because it eliminates the need to use bullnose cap.
For the shower pan I used this sliced Mexican beach pebble. The bathroom floor is done in porcelain tile that looks like wood. This is a higher grade material also and it is evident by the beautiful wood grain texture and coloration. It does not have the bowed appearance you get with the cheaper wood tiles that you find at Home Depot and Lowes.
This is 1/2 inch glass installed as a fixed panel instead of the standard 3/8 inch glass used in most showers. Over the window we installed a reeded glass panel with the lines going horizontally. Also note the placement of the diverter below the thermostatic valve. This is so that the homeowner can shower from a seated position and easily reach for the diverter to divert the water flow to the hand held.
We also painted the walls grey and installed a modern light fixture and mirror above the vanity as well as contemporary drawer pulls and handles. Look below for a before picture of these bathroom as well as other aspects of the bathroom remodeling project in Lakeway / Austin TX.
