When I started designing this bathroom remodel in Westlake / Austin Tx, I wanted to have a minimalist modern style, but didn’t want it to come across as being too sterile. In addition to using vein cut limestone 6″ x 24″ tiles, I framed in both sides of the free floating vanity with walls covered in 2″ x 2″ sandstone tiles. I designed the free floating modern mahogany vanity and stained the wood “English Chesnut”. The counter top is mosaic granite, which I also used as door casing. The shower has 2 Grohe rain heads with a brushed nickel finish. I wanted the valves at the doorway. The reason for choosing these valves was the ability to have preset water tempatures with a separate water on/ off function. The valve on the bottom also acts as a diverter to the hand held sprayer. You can look at other blog postings to follow the progress of this extensive bathroom remodel in which we turned a 9 square foot shower into a 34 square foot walk in shower. We moved walls and the toilet from one side of the room to the other to make this bathroom more functional.
