This Austin Tx home is an on going project on our mid century modern design page on the sub menu for interior design projects. You can see a before picture below. We painted walls mustard yellow. Removed granite fireplace surround and replaced with cut strips of slate in a fat-fat-skinny pattern going all the way around fireplace walls. Removed parquet floors and installed charcoal slate. Removed planter boxes on sides of fireplace and eliminated fireplace hearth to make the space more open and contemporary. Installed recessed lighting around perimeter of soffit. The entry wall behind fireplace is done with Durango Travertine 16″x 16″ tiles with micro beveled edges and the grid windows have been replaced with sidelight windows for added privacy. For furniture we have a mixture of vintage and classic reissues of vintage styles. The walls are decorated with a combination of original prints from the Fillmore in the late 60’s as well as other cool posters that emulate that psychedelic style, all of the pictures have double layered matting and black frames. The handwoven New Zealand wool rug adds some nice separation to the space while adding a touch of warmth as well.
