I had been working with these homeowners for a few months planning out the design leading up to the actual construction of this custom outdoor fireplace in Westlake / Austin Tx. Below I will include some pictures of the initial drawing and different phases of construction. We wanted to enclose the patio space without blocking it out completely. Since there is a deck up above, I recommended that we go with a ventless gas fireplace which does not require any exhaust ventilation pipes. They wanted something that had different height levels and had different materials with varying textures to add dimension. At the last minute they requested that we extend the hearth all the way across the full length of the space. We used this beautiful stacked stone on the wing walls and below the hearth. On the raised center box we used 6″x6″ tumbled travertine tiles. We also used 2″ thick 12″x24″ bull nosed travertine coping for both areas above the stacked rock to give it balance. It also ties in nicely with their existing travertine patio floor.
